    D'Appolonia S.p.A.

Three divisions at D'Appolonia S.p.A. will be involved in SPORTE2. They are Research and Innovation (R&I), Energy, and Electronics. R&I will lead the effort and it will fall under the construction group. R&I is the primary research division of DAPP and has experience in research activities and projects at the private, regional, national, and EU levels. A support staff internal to R&I are available and involved in the project management of research projects. R&I has two primary activities, research and technology transfer to industry. In SPORTE2, the R&I Division will reach out to the DAPP Energy Division (Energy audits, building BMS solutions for clients) and to its Electronics Division (device construction, programming, communication) as needed.
With the R&I Division, the Construction Group deals largely with energy efficiency and with structural health monitoring (SHM). SPORTE2 will combine these two focus areas through its focus in ICT to achieve energy efficiency. The work dealing with evolutionary algorithms is of particular interest in the project as such methods have been used in the field of SHM to detect damage. Fuzzy logic is also of interest as such methods have been used to operate structural control devices (active dampers) in the field of earthquake resistant design.
